Alex Agius Saliba voted for an EP resolution supporting military aid to Ukraine for as long as necessary. One other Labour MEP Josianne Cutajar voted for the resolution as well, while Alfred Sant and Cyrus Engerer were not in the room when the vote was taken.

This Newsbook report points out that just a few days ago, when Roberta Metsola stood next to Ukrainia’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and made just that commitment, Alex Agius Saliba went all Mahatma Ghandi criticising Metsola because Europe has forgotten to turn the other cheek.

Some might think Alex Agius Saliba is a hypocrite, speaking one way and voting another.

I don’t think so. Hypocrisy requires at least basic awareness. Alex Agius Saliba would need to understand the meaning of what he was voting for before he could decide to vote inconsistently with his publicly expressed views.

Hypocrisy would give him too much credit. I hold the view that the simpler explanation is always the better one. Alex Agius Saliba is incompetent.
