So now, rubbish bags carry the national emblem. This truly is a country with a strange sense of decorum.

Understand that at law the use of the national emblem requires the written consent of the prime minister. “It shall not be lawful for any person to use for any purpose whatsoever, without the written authority of the Prime Minister, or not in accordance with any condition contained in any such written authority, the Emblem of Malta.”

Somewhere in the corridors of power there’s a file with a recommendation to the prime minister to stick the national emblem to rubbish bags. And there’s the written consent of the prime minister.

Truly rubbish begets rubbish.
