Repubblika has this morning published a detailed policy paper that gives reasons for the organisation’s belief that Malta should not be selling its citizenship. Some of the arguments are what you would expect given all we know about Malta’s passport-selling scheme.
But this is also an exercise that looks again at what citizenship really means and suggests changes to the rules about how citizenship is handled even in respect of people who are not carrying big bags of cash to acquire it.
What is citizenship? Why is it important? How does it help us live together and how does it risk breaking us apart?
If you get time to leaf through this policy document, do please let me know what you think.
