Beppe Giulietti, President of the Federazione Nazionale Stampa Italiana, proposed in a speech a few days ago that investigative journalists take up and continue the investigations that were interrupted by the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
“What happened to Daphne, before or after her death? A continuous campaign to defame her. (…) Daphne connected her writings with the context. She dug deep: this is the real work. This is why she found herself in the cross-hairs and killed mafia-style”.
“Many colleagues are following closely this matter. They are following even leads in Italy. I think the Italian Press Association should ask the International Press Federation to go to Malta — not to pat her son’s shoulder, put to say something different: let’s take on Daphne’s investigations. Let’s ask the women and men who are investigating wherever they may be, particularly in Italy, to take up her stories, to dig deeper. This is what we would call a media security detail.”
