And yet every morning Malta wakes up and keeps going on in spite of the failure of all its institutions. From Christmas to carnival to Easter, summer holidays and village festas, back again to Christmas it has become just one big circus. The heart is still pumping. Scandals have not stopped it. Embarrassment just slides off. Shame has become a compliment. The only question that remains is what will be the final action that will make the guillotine fall? Because fall it will.
