Repubblika, #occupyjustice and this website announced today the program of events marking the fifth anniversary of the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia. The calendar of events is as follows:

From Saturday 8th October 2022: An exhibition with the theme ‘Daphne Eroj Maltija’ will be set-up outside Valletta’s City Gate.

On Wednesday 12th October 2022: A documentary produced by the three organisations titled ‘Daphne Eroj Maltija’ will be screened for the first time. The screening is being held at the Valletta Campus Theatre in the St Paul Street. Booking is required to attend the screening. (Email [email protected] to book).

On Friday 14th October 2022: An event for young people is being held at the St Paul’s Missionary College in Rabat. The event will be hosted by Peppi Azzopardi and will include performances by musicians REA, JCB, and Sam Christie.

On Saturday 15th October 2022, two events are planned.

The morning event is being organised by Repubblika together with the Fondazione Giovanni Falcone. The two organisations are hosting a seminar entitled ‘M’hemmx Ġustizzja Mingħajr Integrità’ marking the 30th anniversary of the assassinations of Judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino and the 5th anniversary of the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

Academics, journalists, and practitioners will discuss the challenge of having institutions operate within a framework of rules that promote good conduct and ensure the integrity of public officials. The seminar, scheduled to start at 9:30 will be led by George Vital Zammit. Participation is by invitation and the event will be live streamed on social media.

The evening event is being held at the Valletta Campus Theatre. Famed UK author and investigative journalist Carole Cadwalladr who came to international renown after her investigations into the Facebook/Cambridge Analytica scandal will sit for an interview and will take questions from the audience. A number of events are being held on the anniversary proper on Sunday 16 October 2022.

Archbishop Charles Scicluna is celebrating Mass in suffrage of Daphne Caruana Galizia at the Bidnija Church at 9.30 am.

A silent gathering is being held on the Triq il-Bidnija at 3 pm.

A protest march will start from in front of the Parliament building at 6:30pm and will culminate with a vigil in Great Siege Square. Among the speakers there will be the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.

Several other organisations are holding parallel events. The university students’ union, the KSU, has announced a vigil at Car Park 4 of the Msida campus for Monday 17 October at 17:30 where they will be inaugurating a murales in memory of Daphne.

Other events include a vigil being held by Scottish PEN at the Scottish Parliament in Holyrood on 16 October. The event was rescheduled from an earlier date after the death of Queen Elizabeth.

Between the 12th and 16th October the Theatre Next Door is hosting performances of Herman Grech’s award winning play They Blew Her Up.

The Daphne Festival is being helt at St John’s Waterloo in London between the 3rd and 16th October. More details are available here.
