Two months to the day when the journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was brutally assassinated by a car bomb, #occupyjustice activists organized a Mass at the chapel in Bidnija, just up the road from where the bomb that killed her went off.
The Mass was open to the public and was also attended by members of her family. The activists prayed for the leaders of the country to work for the common good, for its people to strive for the values which unite it, for Daphne who fought for justice and for her family and all those present.
Afterwards #occupyjustice led the congregation down to the location where the planned, fatal explosion took place. They placed ponsiettas in the field in the form of a question mark together with a note reading:
“We need to know WHO.
We need to know WHY.
We need to see JUSTICE.
We demand answers. We demand change. We will not rest.
An #occupyjustice activist told the media: “The recent arraignment of three suspects is definitely welcome progress. However we are very concerned that there seems to be a sense of ‘case closed.’ It might be close to Christmas but a family has been torn apart by this violent assassination which has left a gaping hole where our morals and principles should be. People need to understand that more than likely, this crime was commissioned by somebody else. We are only at the tip of the iceberg here. We need to know who commissioned this terrible crime and why.”
#occupyjustice has been critical of how the Caruana Galizia family were treated, and continue to be treated, through the course of the investigations.
This is our nation, this is our home, and we are the people. We expect better, we deserve better, we demand better.
