Yorgen Fenech will continue to await trial in preventive custody in Kordin after Judge Giovanni Grixti denied his application for bail.
The judge turned down the application saying the crimes Yorgen Fenech is charged with are very serious. Indeed, Yorgen Fenech was yesterday indicted for complicity in the wilful homicide of Daphne Caruana Galizia and of associating with others to commit the crime. Prosecutors have asked for a penalty of life in prison.
Judge Giovanni Grixti also recognised a real danger that Yorgen Fenech escapes the country or commits new crimes to undermine the prosecution’s evidence against him if he were to be granted bail ahead of his trial.
Yorgen Fenech denies any wrongdoing.
