Doubts have been cast on whether Cyprus police went through with filing an international arrest warrant against Maria Efimova following a complaint filed four months ago by a Russian jeweller she worked for over 4 years ago.

In an interview with Greek TV news site tvxs.gr, Athens-based lawyer Alexandros Papasteriopoulos clarified Maria Efimova was only wanted by Malta.

In the meantime Cyprus-based journalist Stelios Orphanides earlier today quoted polices sources saying Greece is “likely” to grant Maria Efimova asylum in order to prevent her extradition to Malta. He also quoted an unnamed Greek MEP saying “the matter is on the desk of (Greek Prime Minister Alexis) Tsipras. I hope that the Greek state will be in position to (grant Maria Efimova asylum).”
