In just three years Labour has managed to undo much of the constructive work successive Nationalist administrations carried out in three decades. Labour’s Malta has now become the Venezuela of Europe. The West was relieved by Chavez’s death but the continuation of his policies made the West realise that that it was not the case of just one rotten seed growing into one rotten tree . The whole soil was rotten to the core. Yet, the West still hangs on to Venezuela through its link to the weak opposition. This is only because Venezuela has something to offer to the West by virtue of its oil production. Malta under Labour in the EU offers nothing. It is merely a parasitical country that tries to suck out the lifeblood of anything that comes its way. The other unreliable members at least contribute to the EU’s defense and security.

The EU does not concern itself with internal corruption that the independent press and opposition are constantly revealing on a daily basis. But they are aroused and incensed when the national corruption affects the other EU countries, namely international tax evasion, money laundering, passport-sales, smuggling and visa laundering. These policies strike at the twin pillars of EU policy – fair competition and security.

The incompetence of Labour has been laid bare in the EU. Consider how Joseph Muscat was flattered when a BBC interviewer compared him to a Charles Dickens character. He did not realise that he was being denounced as a criminal heading a band of inconsequential thieves nobody wanted. In Dickens’ world this band was cast out of society as outlaws. The Maltese populace is pro-EU but Labour is anti-EU. The Muscat-Sant tandem tried hard to keep Malta out of the EU and is now having a second attempt at doing so in a more underhand way (a throwback to Mintoff’s two attempts against the Catholic Church). Labour understands little about mutually respectful international relations. Muscat still practises Sant’s idea of partnership where Malta dictates to the EU, takes all out of the EU but gives nothing in return. ‘Inbażwru ‘l hawn, inbażwru ‘l hemm, nieħdu l-vantaġġi kollha mingħajr l-iżvantaġġi’ remains their motto.

When Greece economically misbehaved, the unanimous general feeling in the EU was to expel Greece. The attitude of other EU countries was that it served Greece right. They abused their position and the EU countries were not prepared to sanction that abuse. Greece only grovelled on after accepting the EU’s harsh and humiliating conditions. The suspension of voting rights is a looming possibility but that is only a warning. The EU would not hesitate to take extraordinary steps to expel an extraordinarily misbehaving country. It will only take a suicide terrorist attack funded by a foreign holder of a Maltese passport to bring down Labour’s house of cards, and the country with it.

Malta will have no one to turn to for support as they would have alienated everyone. For the EU countries it will be a contemptuous good riddance to an insignificant appendage of the EU – a small island that treats other EU countries as useful idiots; that is involved in smuggling; that diverts funds from other counties and undermines their border controls  and security; that hypocritically slanders and accuses other EU countries for propaganda reasons; that contravenes hallowed EU standards and ideals. Labour is in the EU just to plunder its resources for its own gain, in the same way it plunders local resources.

This can’t end well.
