I am informed the Police have a perfectly good idea who tipped off the alleged assassins of Daphne Caruana Galizia prior to their arrest.
The motivation for the tip off appears to have been to alert them to dispose of incriminating evidence, such as mobile phones.
The Police appear to have traced the tip-off to a relatively junior officer. The officer concerned was transferred out to another unit and no formal investigation or disciplinary process is known to have been conducted.
The case was kept hushed up because of the potential embarrassment this incident could cause.
Although it is not surprising that career criminals like George Degiorgio and the other two alleged hired assassins have contacts from within the police force, a leak in a case like this raises questions on possible political motivations to reduce the chances of investigators to get an understanding of the full picture of who is behind the killing of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Since no due process was conducted the Police may very well deny that the reasons of any sudden transfers since the arrest of George Degiorgio were based on any suspicions of wrongdoing from the transferee. After all it’s not like the police can confirm they still employ in the force officers they believe tipped off criminals to help them cover up evidence before their arrest.
