When her stories were ignored by their subjects, the IĠM should have led its members in ensuring politicians don’t avoid them.
When she was sued to penury, her bank accounts shut down and threatened by libel lawyers who charge by the hour what journalists here earn in a year, the IĠM could have stepped in to defend her.
When investigations into who ordered her killing are still to lead to the questioning of a suspect, the IĠM could have avoided celebrating the superlative efficacy of the government.
But yesterday they avoided the ultimate mistake and recognised after her death the colleague they tried to ignore all her life. It could have been worse.
