Provocative banners
Here's one. European Capital of Culture chairman covers facade of Valletta landmark with advertising banner having rallied his troops to remove banners covering his own advertising over a Marsa bridge. Nice one, Jason.

I don’t know what to expect from The Daphne Project. Starting today we will hear stories developed from the work of Daphne Caruana Galizia, cut short too soon. I do know what to expect from Joseph Muscat and his army. There will be lies, diversions, retorts, and baseless equivalencies. They don’t need to counter facts [...]
I’m meeting friends in Valletta tonight at another vigil to remember Daphne Caruana Galizia. I plan to speak at the event. The time for thanks and for protest, for grief and for anger, for admiration and for regret is far from over. So many people’s impatience to see it done justifies its unforced continuation. We [...]

Guest Post by Charles Schembri: A bunch of opinion writers persevere in scribbling epistles that do not necessarily comment on our daily chronicles. It is an endeavour on their part to look beyond the truth or un-truth. Our daily chronicle of events, complemented with on-line comments, is just the facade of the malign cancer permeating [...]
Matthew, Andrew and Paul Caruana Galizia and their father Peter filed a letter in the Constitutional Court protesting the Planning Authority's order to remove a banner put up in Old Bakery Street asking uncomfortable questions to the prime minister. The order crushes freedom of expression and they asked the Planning Authority to withdraw it. More [...]
There are bigger issues to worry about right now but there will soon be a time when we need to reflect on the way the right of protest is ignored here. Civil society activists have on a monthly basis raised banners and posters to protest corruption and to demand justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia. None [...]

This is a statement issued this morning by #occupyjustice: Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, his Chief of Staff Keith Schembri and Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi graced Hollywood movie posters put up by activists in front of Castille in Valletta and Pilatus Bank in Ta’ Xbiex, to mark six months since the assassination of the journalist [...]
Jason Micallef will be Googling who Salman Rushdie is this morning. Or Margaret Atwood, Anne Enright, Ian McEwan, Kamila Shamsie, Neil Gaiman, Eva Bonnier, Elif Shafak and Colm Tóibín. They said they are outraged by his remarks and by his orders to his goons to remove banners calling for justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia's death. But knowing [...]
Guest post by Alessandra Dee Crespo: Around six months ago, after having attended Daphne Caruana Galizia’s funeral, I wrote a piece for this blog called ‘We must let you go now’. In this blog post I had said that the time of sitting on the fence is over, that it is our turn to feel [...]
Over 250 influential writers and publishers including Margaret Atwood, Salman Rushdie, Anne Enright, Ian McEwan, Kamila Shamsie, Neil Gaiman, Eva Bonnier, Elif Shafak and Colm Tóibín are calling on the European Commission to ensure justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia, and for the protection of journalists and whistleblowers in Malta. In particular, the letter raises profound [...]
Only truth can bring justice. For six months we have demanded that impunity is ended. The demands will not stop until it does. The Daphne Project is the continuation by a world-wide network of journalists of Daphne Caruana Galizia's work. For truth to prevail, it must be said. Brace for impact. https://youtu.be/pbvgd_zUzRk Read about The [...]
Today's L'Espresso carries a report on conflicts of interests of politicians of the Lega Nord, the third largest party in Italy. The story refers to Italian investment in Malta's insurer Global Capital plc that raised 15 million euro of funding in 2016 from a rights issue that year. Twenty per cent of that funding was [...]
From my article in The Sunday Times today: "The Prime Minister cheated everyone into thinking he was being transparent when he appointed an inquiry into the allegation he received bribes into a bank account of a secret company set up in Panama in his wife’s name. But the inquiry’s remit is extremely carefully defined and [...]
From an #occupyjustice article in The Sunday Times today: "Where are you now that she is dead? What is keeping you at home? Have you succumbed to the intimidation? Are you scared to attend peaceful protests for fear of reprisals? Or have you retreated to your bubble, lulled into a false sense of security? (...) [...]
Prime minister’s staffers Glenn Bedingfield and Kurt Farrugia manipulated a document drawn up by the Caruana Galizia family and passed it on to Swiss journalists (in a doctored version) as if it was a government dossier. Read details of the incident on this The Shift News story. The Shift News worked with Swiss Republik journalists [...]
